“Cakes, Cookies, and Success”, A Discussion with Christina Tosi

I’m lucky to call Christina Tosi, the chef of a culinary empire most known for her Milk Bar outlets in New York and all over the world, a friend. We first bonded over running with Nike and then through her apple pie cheesecake. She’s seemingly ubiquitous now, doing everything from TV (Masterchef) to cookbooks, magazine covers (Adweek, Cherry Bombe), philanthropic efforts (she’s on the board of various institutions including Cookies for Kids’ Cancer), and more. It is no accident the New York Times called her a “border crossing pastry chef”.

Pretty good for someone who first offered to work for free to get her foot in the door and was hustling in Ikea to find the cheapest lights to furnish her first store.

Back in May of 2017 I was able to host a discussion with Christina at Neuehouse. I’ve sat on both the audio and transcript for a while, too much dismay, as what Christina highlighted during our chat was absolutely poignant and more importantly relevant to anyone looking to level-up in their daily life.

I found it fitting, on International Women’s Day, to finally let it go public as it deserves to be shared outside of only the people that were present.

Subjugated communities, women and minorities alike, need the chance to tell their story. It not only humanizes populations beyond stereotypes but gives the ability for us to learn lessons to apply to our own life.

Below you’ll find both the text transcript and the audio of our discussion. About 40 minutes of discussion, followed by a brief Q&A, it’s a quick listen.

Hope you enjoy
